HEALTH BENEFITS OF EATING MORNINGSTAR MUESLI

A nutritious breakfast is the most important meal of the day, giving you and your family the energy needed to perform at full potential.  The following information gives the health benefits of the ingredients in Morningstar Honey Muesli and why muesli is the best choice for breakfast.  Morningstar Honey Muesli is generous in delicious and wholesome ingredients creating not only a nutritional breakfast but a delicious one too. Eating a small portion (60g-70g) daily with yoghurt/milk and fresh fruit (optional) is enough to make you feel fully satisfied.

Oats is:

high in carbohydrates which helps maintain energy levels for the day ahead;

a whole grain cereal and an excellent source of dietary fibre, which may maintain healthy blood sugar levels

an excellent source of Vitamin B1 which assists with the release of energy;

contains phosphorus which is needed in developing and maintaining strong bones and teeth;

contains magnesium which helps our bodies to make protein and release energy from muscles;

low in sodium/salt.  Diets low in sodium may reduce the risk of high blood pressure.

Actions:  antioxidant, anti-cancer, anti-obesity, lowers blood sugar levels, nerve restorative, antidepressant, nourishes brain and nerves, improves stamina

Nuts & seeds are:

naturally trans fatty acid and cholesterol free foods;

high in energy, carbohydrates, protein & Vitamin E;

source of fibre & magnesium, very low in sodium

nuts are high in polyunsaturated fat which reduces blood cholesterol

nuts contain essential fatty acids, which are essential for healthy skin, hair, glands, mucus membranes, nerves and arteries as well as being helpful in preventing cardiovascular disease.  Nuts allow a slow steady rise in blood sugar and insulin, making them good foods for diabetics. 

linseed contains the essential 3 omega oils (good fats) – 58% omega 3, 14% omega 6, 19% omega 9

sesame seed is a good source of incomplete protein and is a source of vitamin E and co-Q10, an essential coenzyme for metabolism – sesame seed also has antioxidant qualities

sunflower seed is a good source of vitamin E, protein, minerals & omega 6

CAUTION:  Nuts can cause an allergic reation in some people that is why we have also created a nut free muesli called Honey Muesli Regular.

Dried fruit:

Raisins contain the following important substances, namely:

  • High phenol levels which helps prevent oxygen based damage to cells in the body

  • Boron for better bone health such as protection against osteoporosis

  • Lowers and protects against age related macular degeneration (primary cause of vision loss in older adults)

  • Inulin which keeps the colon healthy by promoting healthy colon cell growth which helps prevent the growth of abnormal cells that may lead to disease

Sultanas are a good source of energy (1.276kj / 305 kcal per 100g) and also contains vitamins B1, B2 and various minerals.  It is medically proven that it helps child growth, curing diseases with inflammation and fever, also kidney and liver diseases.  Sultanas also has a low GI (glycaemic index) which has the effect of a slow energy release and improves blood sugar control.

In addition, raisins and sultanas contain the following:

  • Calcium which builds healthy bones & teeth

  • Folic acid which contains Vitamin B12 for the formation of healthy blood and develops the brain

  • Iron which not only carries oxygen around the blood but prevents anemia and produces red blood cells

In our Honey Muesli Berry variant we have included cranberries.  Cranberries contain significant amounts of antioxidants and other phytonutrients that may help protect against heart disease, cancer and other diseases.  They also contain significant amounts of vitamin C, is a very good source of fibre and manganese and has a good amount of vitamin K and E.  Cranberries have anti-inflammatory, immune support, cardiovascular & digestive tract benefits.

In our Honey Muesli Exotic we have added dates & coconut flakes.  Dates are rich in dietary fibre, antioxidants, a good source of vitamin A and potassium and an excellent source of iron.  They are also rich in minerals like calcium, manganese, copper and magnesium.  Coconut is high in fibre, contains vitamins C, B-6, E, K, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, folate and choline.  They also contains the minerals, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, sodium, zinc, copper, manganese and selenium.

The honey dipped banana gives a crunchy texture to the muesli.

Cinnamon & Honey:

Honey contains B vitamins, calcium, iron, zinc, potassium and phosphorous and has the ability to act as a potent killer of bacteria.  Honey is an antioxidant, anti-bacterial, antimicrobial, calms nerves and has antidiarrhea actions.

Honey, if taken in the right dosage as a medicine will not harm diabetic patients.

Honey reduces cholesterol in the arteries.

Regular use of honey and cinnamon relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heartbeat.

Honey and cinnamon improves blood flow.

Honey and cinnamon relieves gas and pain in the stomach

Daily intake of honey and cinnamon strengthens the immune system strengthening the white blood corpuscles to fight bateria and viral diseases.

CAUTION:  The National Honey Board, along with other health organizations, recommends that honey not be fed to infants under one year of age
